About CVRC

Mission

The Cardiovascular Research Core (CVRC), affiliated with the Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR) and part of the Research Resources Center (RRC) within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR), supports investigators’ research projects and grant applications by providing and developing innovative preclinical imaging approaches and disease models. Building on more than 16 years of experience, our skilled scientists offer expert consultation, training, surgical procedures, functional assessments, and customized research solutions to investigators at UIC and beyond, ensuring rigorous, reproducible, and timely outcomes.

Our services are available to UIC investigators and external users. We provide expert consultation to support experimental planning, implementation of rodent and swine models of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, and preclinical imaging. We also welcome opportunities to develop challenging preclinical models tailored to investigators’ research needs.


All services may be performed with assistance from CVRC staff. Following appropriate training, qualified users may independently perform echocardiography and LagoX imaging. To initiate a new service or establish an Animal Use Protocol or RRC account, please contact us.


All core-assisted and self-directed animal studies require prior approval under the principal investigator’s Animal Use Protocol by the UIC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Meet the RRC






The Research Resources Center (RRC) is a division of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois Chicago. The RRC offers research faculty, staff, and students a diverse inventory of high-end scientific equipment as well as a wide range of services offered by 18 core facilities staffed with highly skilled scientists. In addition, our staff trains the research faculty, staff and students to use the scientific equipment. Through the RRC, researchers also have access to statistical and computational support for data handling, data transfer, and interpretation of experimental results. The RRC Scientific Store supports research on campus by supplying over 1300 items while Scientific Instrument Shop can fabricate one-of-a-kind models and repair complex scientific equipment. The RRC also welcomes external users doing scientific research.
